What are they saying when Namilia and Playboy combine forces? Is it the romance or subversion of power?
The 2025 autumn/winter collection launched by Berlin fashion giant Namilia with Playboy is a visual feast but also a cultural revolt about identity and power. Namilia uses Y2K style design in an era when retro is reduced to “nostalgia” to tell us that rebellion doesn’t need compromise.
- The volume of discussion about Namilia’s Y2K style design on Instagram has increased by 210% in the last year, making it one of the most desired items by Generation Z.
In the 48 hours following the release of the series, traffic to Namilia’s website grew by 320% and the hashtag #NamiliaRebellion topped the list of searches.

Namilia’s design breaks the stereotype that classics are only for the past. This series, which includes bags that are transformed into skirts and tops with perforated spaghetti-straps, is not just a visual focus but also a challenge of traditional gender roles.
Nan Li, Namilia’s Creative Director, revealed that her inspiration for this series was a dream she had when she was sixteen years old: to design rebellious clothing for idols.
- Namilia, unlike other Playboy collaborations chose to challenge the conventional female image by transforming Playboy’s iconic symbols into modern symbols of strength;
“When rebellion becomes cultural revolution, who said fashion couldn’t be a reshaping power?”
